There is renewed interest in the history of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. The dynamism and inventiveness of the late Georgian and Victorian period is well demonstrated in this exciting and revealing story of the Elkington’s invention of electroplating while working in St Paul’s Square and Newhall Street.

Elkington’s moved at a fast pace, from lodging patents to large-scale manufacturing, appeared to take just a few years. However, behind the scenes George and Henry had amassed huge experience which lead to their inventions.

This exciting story gives an insight into the way single-minded inventors and industrialists went about their business in such a powerful way. All is revealed in the brand new Newhall Square, the site of the original Elkington factory that came to dominate the world of electroplating. We even get to look at some of the items produced here over the years.

This is an outdoor event. A short walk may be included but will depend on participants.  Disabled guests will be fully catered for and wheelchairs are encouraged with access from Newhall Street and disabled parking at the entrance to the Square. A live audio system will be used so that you can spread out and socially distance.
